Shenandoah Valley

Also known as: Shenandoah, VA Valley, Valley of Virginia

The agricultural valley between the Blue Ridge and the Allegheny Mountains — 200 miles long, anchored by Winchester, Harrisonburg, Staunton, and Roanoke. Deep limestone-derived soils, mild climate (relative to the surrounding mountains), apple country in the north and beef-cattle country in the south. One of the densest small-farm regions in the inland mid-Atlantic.
