Bioregion

Puerto Rico

Also known as: Borinquen

A Caribbean island whose food sovereignty movement, post-Maria, became one of the most articulate in the hemisphere — agroecology farms, seed-saving networks, and a returning subsistence layer recovering after a century of monocrop coffee/sugar/tobacco extraction.

Why this entry

This bioregion enters the directory as the anchor for aligned-business listings already operating inside it — a stub the platform back-fills as more Puerto Rico-area entries accrue.

What’s distinctive

Replace this section as the bioregion’s directory presence thickens. Aim to cover: the geological/ecological signature, the cultural-memory layer (pre-colonial, settler, contemporary), the keystone institutions and land trusts already at work, and the through-line that ties listed businesses to the place itself.

Stub status

This page is intentionally minimal. As Puerto Rico listings accrue, expand into the same template the poconos entry follows: ecological detail, Indigenous history, institutional ecosystem, distinctive species and habitats, and the cultural-economic dynamic the directory‘s operators are responding to.
