New Jersey Highlands
Also known as: NJ Highlands, Skylands, New Jersey Skylands
The northwestern New Jersey physiographic province — Precambrian-bedrock highlands rising west of the Piedmont, drained by the Musconetcong, Pequest, Pohatcong, and Wallkill rivers. The Highlands Conservation Act of 2004 designated the region a federally-recognized drinking-water source for much of the New York metro. Mix of preserved forests, working farms, small river valleys, and historical iron-and-canal industrial corridors. Borders the Delaware River and Pennsylvania's Kittatinny Ridge to the west; the Piedmont and NYC metro to the east.
