The 70-mile southern tip of the Delmarva Peninsula — Accomack and Northampton counties of Virginia, bounded by Chesapeake Bay on the west, the Atlantic on the east, and Maryland to the north. Sandy alluvial soils, mild maritime climate, the centuries-old foodway that produced Chincoteague oysters and Eastern Shore sweet potatoes. Distinct from the Chesapeake-Tidewater proper (which is the western mainland-side of the bay).
