Contemplative Science

Also known as: contemplative neuroscience, the science of meditation, contemplative studies

An interdisciplinary field, emerging substantially from the late 1980s onward, that brings the empirical methods of cognitive science, neuroscience, psychology, and biomedicine to the study of contemplative practices (meditation, prayer, ceremony, ritual, contemplative arts) and the states and traits they produce.
