Coastal California between the San Francisco Bay Area and the Los Angeles Basin — Monterey Bay, the Salinas Valley, San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties. Mediterranean climate moderated by the Pacific cold-water upwelling; one of the most productive agricultural regions in the country (the Salinas Valley alone produces ~80% of US lettuce).
