Carolina Piedmont

Also known as: Piedmont Carolinas, Charlotte Region, Upstate

The Piedmont rolling-hills region between the Blue Ridge to the west and the Coastal Plain to the east — covering most of central North Carolina and northern South Carolina. Charlotte, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Raleigh-Durham, and Greenville anchor the urban corridor. Oak-hickory and pine forests; the Catawba, Yadkin, and Pee Dee rivers drain the bioregion.
