Fort Wadsworth
A historic military installation at the entrance to New York Harbor, at the Staten Island foot of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge. First fortified by the Dutch in 1663; named Fort Wadsworth after the Civil War; one of the longest continuously-active military installations in the United States until decommissioning in 1995. Now a unit of Gateway National Recreation Area, with significant educational programming and the most-iconic harbor view on the borough.
