An unincorporated community in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana, sitting directly across the parish line from the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans. Founded as a slaughterhouse and stockyard town in the late 19th century along the riverfront industrial corridor, Arabi was devastated by Hurricane Katrina (2005) and again by the March 2022 tornado. The post-Katrina decade reseeded its industrial-arts and St. Claude Avenue corridor as a low-rent extension of the Bywater / St. Claude creative-and-spiritual district — including the directory's New Orleans karma-yoga anchor at Sama Studio.

The town began as a slaughterhouse-and-stockyards site in the late 1800s — the name dates to that era — and through the 20th century housed industrial uses tied to the river: rail, fabrication, warehousing.

Hurricane Katrina (August 2005) flooded most of Arabi when the Industrial Canal levee failed; the same storm flooded the Lower Ninth Ward across the parish line. Recovery has been slower in St. Bernard than in Orleans Parish; what filled the gap, in the area closest to [[san-francisco|the city]] line, was an inflow of artists, makers, and small spiritual-practice operators priced out of Bywater and the Marigny. The St. Claude / Friscoville Avenue corridor in particular has become a quiet extension of that creative-and-contemplative ecology.

The March 22, 2022 tornado damaged or destroyed many of those gains; recovery is ongoing.
