Adaptogen

A category of herbs proposed by Soviet scientist Nikolai Lazarev in 1947 for plants that help the body adapt to stress without overstimulating or sedating. The original adaptogen criteria: produces nonspecific resistance, has a normalizing effect, and is innocuous in normal doses.
